The system map: two layers, not one line

The water path is what water passes through. The control layer decides and signals, carries no water, and meets the path at the electric valve alone.

Water path

The route water physically takes, from the source to the plant. Water passes through every stage here.

  1. Water source

The starting point the site already owns: a mains connection, a well, or a tank. Its pressure, flow, and water quality are the given that everything downstream is built on.

What decides the choice: Measuring and analyzing the source in the irrigation study before any component is chosen.

    Not supplied by Smart Garden

The source belongs to the site. Our role is to measure and analyze it in the irrigation study before recommending any component, because an error here travels into the whole network.

Related service: Irrigation Design and Studies

  2. Pumping

Provides the pressure and flow the hydraulic design requires, where the source alone does not.

What decides the choice: The duty point from the calculations: simultaneous-zone flow and the pressure required at the farthest point.

Related service: Irrigation Design and Studies

  3. Filtration

Holds back contaminants before they enter the network, protecting irrigation components and reducing the risk of clogging.

What decides the choice: The water-source conditions and the requirements of the network downstream of it.

Related service: Irrigation Design and Studies

  4. Mainlines and fittings

The pipe and fittings that carry the calculated flow from filtration to the valve locations.

What decides the choice: Diameters and pressure classes from the hydraulic calculations, with fittings matched to pipe type and installation method.

Related service: Supply of Irrigation Products

  5. Valves

Divides the network into zones: solenoid valves open and close a zone on the controller's command, and isolation valves make maintenance safe.

What decides the choice: Line pressure, flow, and where the valve sits in the network.

Where the layers meetThis is the one place the control layer meets the water path: the signal reaches the valve's coil, and the water passes through the valve itself.

Related service: Supply of Irrigation Products

  6. Secondary distribution

The laterals after the valve, carrying the zone's flow to the irrigation points inside it.

What decides the choice: Lateral length, how many outlets it carries, and the pressure loss allowed inside the zone.

    The same family, another duty

The same family that serves the mainlines, at the diameters and pressure classes the zone's calculations set.

    Pipes and Fittings

Related service: Irrigation Design and Studies

  7. Irrigation application

The last metre: drip delivering to the root zone, sprinklers and rotors covering turf.

What decides the choice: Planting type, area and shape, and the precipitation rate each zone needs.

Related service: Irrigation Design and Studies

Control layer

A layer of decision and signal; no water passes through it. It meets the water path at the electric valve alone.

  1. Controllers

Where irrigation schedules and zones are programmed and managed: when each zone runs, for how long, and in what order. Central multi-site control is available where the selected system supports it.

What decides the choice: Zone count, how the site needs to be operated, and what the selected system actually supports.

Related service: Technical Support and After-Sales Service

  2. Sensors and weather

May help adjust irrigation schedules and run times according to site conditions.

What decides the choice: What the site genuinely needs to measure, and whether the sensor works with the selected controller.

Related service: Irrigation Design and Studies

  3. Control communication

Carries the signal between the controller and the electric valves. It may be wired or wireless, depending on the selected system and the site.

What decides the choice: The selected system and the site conditions — and, for a wired link, run length, valve count, and a burial-rated cable sized for both.

Related service: Supply of Irrigation Products

  4. Electric valves

The layer's end point: the signal reaches the valve's coil, which opens or closes an irrigation zone. The valve itself is a water-path component; here it is read from the control side.

What decides the choice: Whether coil voltage and station count match the selected controller.

The same family shown on the water path at stage W.05.

Across the system

What does not sit at one stage, and serves both layers.

  1. Accessories and spare parts

Does not sit at one stage: accessories and spare parts for the brands we supply, serving the water path and the control layer alike.

What decides the choice: The components actually installed on site, and the availability of spare parts that match them.

Related service: Technical Support and After-Sales Service

The ten families by role

Four groups across the two layers, so you reach a family by what it does rather than by its name.

Pumping and filtration

Between the source and the network: the pressure and flow the design requires, and the filtration that protects what follows.

Pumping

Pumps and Water Movement

The pressure and flow the design requires.

Too little pressure leaves zones below their designed coverage; too much drives spray into drift. Both are departures from the calculated duty point.

Supported brands: Lowara

Conveyance and flow control

The infrastructure water travels through: calculated mainlines and fittings, and valves that divide the network into zones.

Mainlines and fittings

Pipes and Fittings

The infrastructure everything flows through.

A pipe or fitting that does not match its pressure class or installation method shows up after backfill, where the repair costs excavation rather than a price difference.

Irrigation application

The last metre, chosen from the planting: drip at the root zone, or sprinklers and rotors for turf.

Irrigation application

Drip Irrigation

Water straight to the root, without evaporation or excess.

Surface watering in a hot climate loses much of its water to evaporation before the plant can use it.

Supported brands: Hunter · AZUD

Control layer and continuity

What decides and carries the signal — with no water passing through it — and what keeps the installed components working after handover.

Controllers

Smart Controllers

Where irrigation schedules and zones are programmed.

A fixed schedule irrigates the same amount in summer and winter, while a site's requirement changes across the year. Programming zones and run times correctly is what addresses that.

What the selection is built on

Six inputs our engineering team works through before recommending any component, in this order.

Not sure which family?

Describe your site, your water source, and what you need to irrigate; our engineering team recommends the components within the irrigation study.

Design and studies service
  • The water source

The source's pressure, flow, and water conditions are the first input: pumping, filtration, diameters, and everything after them are built on it.

  • Matching filtration to the source

Filtration is chosen from the water-source conditions and the network's requirements, to protect the irrigation components and reduce the risk of clogging.

  • The hydraulic calculations

Flow and pressure requirements, then zoning, then diameters and pressure classes — in that order, with fittings matched to the pipe type.

  • The irrigation method, by planting

Drip for trees, shrubs, and row planting; sprays and rotors for turf. Their precipitation rates differ, so the two are not mixed within one zone.

  • The control architecture

The controller and its zone count, and how the signal reaches the electric valves — wired or wireless, per the selected system and the site. For a wired link, burial-rated cable sized to run length and valve count.

  • Availability of compatible spares

The spare-parts question belongs to the selection, not to the aftermath of a failure: are parts compatible with the proposed brand and model obtainable? The team checks on enquiry.
